Give your child the best of complementary medicine

ADHD is one of the most common behavioral problems in childhood and adolescence. ADHD sufferers usually exhibit one or more of the following symptoms; drifty, distractible, impulsive, dreamy, and disoriented. They may easily miss the train of thought, and must constantly be reminded of their tasks. Yet they are able to concentrate if interested. They are easily bored. They have a poor short term memory and comprehension of details. Some children may manifest motor restlessness and hyperactivity. In the majority of cases attention deficit symptoms primarily inattentiveness and impulsivity persist into adulthood.

Causes of ADHD are not quite clear. Genetics and environmental factors may be involved. In a published study (Hajek et al, Am J Psychiatry 2002;159:297-301), patients with late-stage Lyme disease wer found to exhibit ADD/ADHD like symptoms as well as other behavioral symptoms.

Scientific studies in ADD/ ADHD patients point to the presence of abnormal functioning or dysregulation of certain brain neurotransimmiters and nerve pathways known to be involved in behavior regulation and modification. The neurotransmitter dopamine appears to be implicated in developing ADHD symptoms. other studies showed that some parts of the brain are either underdeveloped or less active than normal.

Conventional treatment with drugs

Traditionally many drugs are used to control ADHD symptoms, which include Ritalin, Cylert, Dexedrine among others. In some cases anti depressants or clonidine may be used instead. However, the down side of the stimulant therapy is significant, it is not curative, the effects last for only a few hours, and treats only some of the symptoms. 20-25% of the children with the presumed ADHD are non-responders. Though patients with ADHD suffer from some common symptoms, each patient has a unique set of symptoms that differs from those of other patients. Traditional medical therapy appears to be a superficial treatment since it only suppresses these symptoms without really treating the root of the problem. Drugs may need to be taken for life. The side effects for these drugs could also be very significant, that includes appetite and weight loss, anxiety, insomnia, and tics among others.

Homeopathy & Auricular Medicine

Many complementary therapies are used to promote the integrity of the immune system thus allowing the body to address whatever cause might be responsible for the symptoms rather than just suppressing those symptoms. Many of these complementary therapies are safe, simple, and have no side effects or complications as the case is with conventional medications. Above all these complementary therapies seem to be needed for few months only.

The unique and exclusive treatment for Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity that this center offers is divided into two parts:

Auricular Medicine

Auricular medicine is a highly advanced and complex form of ear acupuncture. In the 1950’s a French physician discovered after years of research that all our systems and organs are projected on our ears. For thousands of years many cultures treated certain diseases through the ear, however, it is only recently that we developed much understanding as to the extent of benefits we can achieve through this technique. This is a unique separate system of acupuncture that deals with the energetic disturbances of our organs rather than those of the meridians as it is the case in general body acupuncture.

Auricular Medicine is a tool that enables us to use the ear for obtaining valuable information about the energetic status of the various body organs including the brain structures. Combining this information with the symptoms presented as well as the results of various investigations will help formulating the best complementary treatment possible.

Through auricular medicine disturbed parts of the brain that may be involved in developing the symptoms of ADD or ADHD could be identified. Once identified, they could be treated using many forms of stimulation that includes needling or the application of painless micro-electrical stimulation. This stimulation is believed to bring stability to the energetic status of the involved parts of the brain.

By repeating this procedure and combining it with other treatment modalities, impressive improvement is expected in most cases in a period of time that varies “according to the complexity of the problem“ from 4-12 months.

Homeopathic Remedies

Homeopathic remedies are prepared by repeated dilution of natural substances that are of plants, minerals or animal origin. All of which are prepared according to the United States Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. Homeopathic remedies are known for their safety and lack of toxicity and / or side effects. By studying the unique symptoms of the patient the homeopathic practitioner would be able to prescribe the most suitable homeopathic remedies. Again, because the homeopathic consultation looks at the uniqueness of the patient's symptoms patients with ADD/ADHD may receive different homeopathic remedies. These remedies are believed to stimulate the innate defensive mechanism of the body, which may help bring stabilization to the brain's functions.
